I’ve been around dogs for most of my life, but my real journey into dog training began with a Labrador cross called Barney.
While living in France, I adopted Barney, who came with his own challenges. He was reactive, struggled in certain situations and wasn’t the easy dog I’d imagined living with. Together we put in the time, patience and training to help him feel more confident in the world. In return Barney became one of the most rewarding companions I could ever have hoped for by showing me that with understanding, patience and the right support, every dog has the potential to thrive.
That experience changed the way I looked at dog training. It wasn’t just about teaching cues, it was about knowing and understanding the dog in front of you, building trust, and creating confidence at both ends of the lead.
Today, I’m a volunteer Puppy Raiser for Guide Dogs, giving puppies the best possible start before they begin their formal training. Raising future guide dogs has given me invaluable hands-on experience with puppy development, socialisation, resilience and the importance of reward-based training in every-day life.
From this September I’ll be an Institute of Modern Dog Trainers Accredited Puppy Trainer, working towards full IMDT Dog Trainer membership, as I continue to develop my knowledge and qualifications through one of the worlds most respected education providers for modern, ethical dog training.
Positive Start Puppies was created to provide dog owners the support I know can make all the difference. Whether you’re preparing for your puppy’s arrival, navigating the early months, or wondering where your lovely puppy disappeared to during adolescence, my goal is simple: to help you understand your puppy, meet their needs and enjoy your journey together.
Because puppy training isn’t just about creating well-mannered dogs. It’s about raising confident companions and helping owners feel just as confident every step of the way.
I can’t wait to meet you and your puppy.
